Jane Park Wells

Korean artist Jane Park Wells creates delicate, often botanical abstract paintings, collages and mixed-media works. She typically mounts her vine-like square paintings, done on wood or canvas panels, in gridded patterns, interweaving the lines among one another. Her works often possess a sheer, diaphanous effect that she achieves through staining, rubbing over, or sanding layers of paint. She often uses particular colors or textures to convey a variety of moods and emotions. In her later collages, Wells explores themes of womanhood by pastiching the faces of professional Korean women cut out from various sources into large-scale abstract compositions.
